Odessa Police Warning Public about Counterfeit Money
The Odessa Police Department would like to warn residents and businesses about the recent circulation of counterfeit bills in Odessa. The Odessa Police Department Criminal Investigation Division and United States Secret Service are currently investigating over 50 cases involving counterfeit $100 and $50 bills, including several counterfeit bills with Chinese lettering. These bills are legal to posses but illegal to pass and are also known as prop money. They can be purchased on Amazon, EBay, etc.
The Odessa Police Department would like to caution businesses to be careful and check all bills closely. The counterfeit bills are usually thinner and smaller than real bills. The presidential watermark should be able to be seen when held up to the light on real bills. If anyone has any questions in reference to counterfeit bills they are asked to go to http://www.secretservice.gov/data/KnowYourMoney.pdf or call the Odessa Police Department at 432-335-4961.
